Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive lighting supplier. Seeking a Product Engineer with mechanical background. This position reports to the Product Development Manager and is responsible for working with Application Engineering and other cross functional project teams in order to define realistic and achievable product designs.       

Key Responsibilities:

  • Follow all best practices for company and the OEM for new product development.
  • Utilize the escalation process when necessary in order to draw attention to, and help develop mitigation plans for risks to product development.
  • Utilize structured problem-solving methods to analyze and solve problems related to product failures throughout the life of the product (DFMEA, 8D’s etc.).
  • Support Program Managers in technical discussions with the customers.
  • Support PDT meetings as required.
  • Support tooling/equipment tryouts, at suppliers and company manufacturing sites.
  • Generates presentations for customers (internal and external) and management as required.
  • Prefer some level Catia experience for evaluating design data.
  • Required to follow any other instructions and to perform any other duties as requested by supervisor.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering/design with additional years of experience.
  • Five (5) to Six (6) or more years' experience in automotive product engineering with previous experience in the interior or exterior automotive/heavy truck lighting industry.
  • Extensive knowledge in engineering of automotive injection molded products.
  • Extensive knowledge in joining of injection molded components (sonic welding, vibration welding, laser welding, etc.)
  • Have working knowledge of molding, secondary assembly, decorating (ie: vacuum metalizing), electronics, optics, prototyping methods, troubleshooting, quality process, all phases of APQP.
  • Must be able to specify, understand and interpret CAE reports from suppliers or internal departments (including but not limited to FEA, Optical simulations, injection mold flows, thermal simulations, etc.).
  • Must be able to lead DFMEA development and discussions.
  • Should have working knowledge of DFM (Design for Manufacturability).
  • Automotive Product Development Processes.
  • Working knowledge of electronics.
  • Must be proficient in use of a personal computer including Microsoft Office:  Word, Excel; and data entry.
  • Prefer some level Catia experience for evaluating design data.
