The Floater is required to:
- Operate the Straightener, Cutoff, and Bundling Carts on either mill at rated production speeds
- Change tooling and setup of straightener and cutoff on either mill in a timely manner.
- Lead and direct the B-Helper and other crew members to increase uptime and lower scrap
- Alert the Mill Operator to quality issues in the product
- Straighten, cut, and package product to suit all order requirements
- Complete all mill paperwork correctly
- Operate either mill at rated production speeds
- Produce a quality tube
- Change tooling and setup on either mill
- Lead, direct and participate in Mill Changeovers in a timely manner as needed.
- Read and correctly use micrometers, calipers, pi tapes, radius gages, specialty gages
- Read and understand mill orders
- Ensure the tube is produced and packaged to suit all order requirements
- Complete all mill paperwork correctly
- Communicate and coordinate with Shipping
- Communicate and coordinate with Receiving
- Communicate and coordinate with Maintenance
- Assist with, write, and read setup charts and procedures for all sizes of tube
- Assist with mill maintenance as directed
- Perform mill housekeeping as required to maintain a safe and efficient workplace
- Follow all written or spoken procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
The Floater is required to lead and/or direct the activities of:
- B-Helper
- A-Helper and B-helper trainees
- Changeover crew
- Any and all temporary labor working on the mill
